Columbians are fortunate to live in a town with access to many unique shops, restaurants, and bookstores. One of Columbia’s many treasures is the Sager Reeves Gallery at 1025 East Walnut in the heart of the North Village Arts District. In addition to monthly exhibits, Sager Reeves brings the Masters Exhibit to Columbia every year which includes a combination of works by famous and lesser-known artists.
This year’s exhibit includes works by Andy Warhol, Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali as well as art by Corita Kent, Leonor Fini, and Ben Cameron. The intention of combining works by famous artists with lesser-known artists is to provide a broader picture of the way in which artists influenced each other and how cultural events shaped the messages and styles of their work. An understanding of the relationships between artists, their living situations, and social circles, creates truer stories of the artists behind the art.
The Masters Exhibit began in December and will continue through the end of January. Although many of the works in the exhibit have been purchased, there will be a “refresh” and purchased pieces will be replaced by new works. The new exhibit pieces will be available the first week of January for gallery members. The gallery will be open for public viewing on the First Friday of 2023 – January 6th.
In the spirit of local business collaboration, books are available in the Sager Reeves onsite shop. Yellow Dog Bookshop curates a reading experience for each exhibit which includes books about specific artists, topics related to the exhibit, artistic styles, and more. In addition, Sager Reeves merchandise is available with special reduced pricing for gallery members.
Interested in being more involved in bringing art to Columbia? Sager Reeves offers membership to the gallery in 3 tiers. For more information about membership pricing or if you’re interested in scheduling a private tour of the gallery, you can check out the Sager Reeves website.

The North Village Art Walk is pleased to feature Larry Young’s bronze sculpture “The Gymnast”, which stands proudly on Walnut Street in front of Love Columbia. The 7-foot bronze sculpture is inspired by the 1972 Olympic performance of Russian gymnast Olga Korbut. The artist was so inspired by her movements on the beam that he wanted to capture that moment forever. The North Village Art Walk is a program of the North Village Arts District that curates and promotes public art. It is funded by Veterans United Foundation and aims to create an urban art experience that is accessible to all. The featured sculpture is just one part of the Art Walk, which features over 30 pieces of public art. The Gymnast is a stunning example of Larry Young’s artistry and dedication to capturing the moments that inspire us. We are proud to feature The Gymnast as part of the North Village Art Walk and hope that it will continue to inspire viewers for years to come.
Mid-Missouri is fortunate to have a weekly radio program focused on visual art, music, literature, and more. Speaking of the Arts hosted by Diana Moxon the former Executive Director of the Columbia Art League interviews art makers and explores all aspects of creative expression.
